Canada announes to support gay refugee committee

Immigration Minister Jason Kenney announced that the Canadian government will work with the Rainbow Refugee Committee to support oversea refugees who are maltreated for being gay. Citizenship and Immigration Canada will donate $10,000 to cover three months of income support and refugee needs when they arrive to Canada, according to the Toronto Star [1]. “These funds are a welcome first step in response to the crisis facing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people around the globe at a time when 77 countries continue to criminalize homosexuality and fiver prescribe the death penalty,” executive director of Egale Canada Helen Kennedy said in The Star. Another part of the agreement requires that The Rainbow committee reach out to other private groups for additional sponsorship. Kenney said acquiring private sponsors is crucial for the sponsorship program’s future as the sponsors will provide financial aid for refugees during their first year in Canada. • How Copyright Takes Away Rights From Consumers

It’s amusing to see defenders of current copyright law often making final declarations about how copyright is a “right” for artists, and thus protecting those rights absolutely makes sense.
