Archives for Financial Aid category

When you hear the word scholarship, what usually comes in to your mind? Many answers would be ‘education’. Education is indeed vital. Through education, you are able to discover things that you never imagined possible for you to learn.

While many parents are struggling to give their children the best education, sometimes the costs that comes along with it discourages them especially if they can’t afford the very high tuition fees.

When parents send their children to school, they not only have to think of the tuition fees, but also of other school fees that need to be settled. They also have to consider the daily allowance of their children, their food, and many other things which require them to spend money. And this is probably the reason why many of them prefer to put an end to their child’s education.

Putting an end to education at an early age without attending college is detrimental to your child. This sad fact is experienced by millions of children around the world whose parents are financially unstable. Not only are they stripped of their future career, but also they are stuck in that difficult situation all their life. Without proper education, they cannot fulfil their dreams.

Scholarships awarded to qualified students are a great way to help financially incapable individuals. Aside from scholarships, grants are also given to some students who passed proposals and were able to find sponsors. These two options attract many students to apply and get free money to help them go through their college life.

Different states fund different scholarships. And within the state, there are private institutions, employers, educational institutions, and professional associations which help in funding grants and scholarships.

To be eligible for a scholarship, you must pass the following requirements:

- academic performance

- financial need

- athletic achievement

- minority status

- religious affiliation

- community affiliation

- heritage

- set of unique criteria of a particular organization that provides the fund

You have to start searching for that scholarship early, and you must be diligent and focused. Remember that every year, you need to make an application for the scholarship.

If you’re planning to go to college with a scholarship, you must familiarize yourself with the different requirements, how to go about your scholarship application, avoid scholarship scams, get a good help with scholarship essays, and see featured scholarship programs especially on the net.

You have to be honest when you’re searching or applying for a college scholarship. You should also be organized and be able to follow certain instructions properly and carefully. Before submitting your application, you must first proofread. You must have your own copy of the papers that you’ve sent, and be sure to send it through registered mail.

If you follow these things, you will find yourself a scholarship in no time at all. As mentioned earlier, you should stay away from any possible scholarship scam that might come your way. If a certain individual offers you hard to resist applications but you’re doubtful all the while, then trust your instincts and avoid them.

So, if you want free money, apply now for a college scholarship. It’s your ticket to earning a degree in college. Your parents will be most proud if you are able to pursue your studies independently.

Education is the key for a successful career, which is why it is the primary responsibility of all parents to send their children to school. Although education is a necessity, not all parents are able to fund their children schooling. Others usually stop after they graduate from high school.

This is truly happening in almost any part of the world, and according to statistics, the number is increasing year after year. And this is probably why the government and other private organizations are looking for ways to give scholarships to capable students with limited financial resources.

Students are not alike; in fact, each individual has his/her own distinct characteristic and talent. Some students have talents in the arts, dancing, singing, and music. Now, there are scholarships for particular fields of interest. And if you do love music very much, there are a lot of scholarships for college music.

Music is very popular, and many students are becoming interested in this certain area. Although some parents may not like their children to pursue a career in music (because what they want is a more stable career), students have a choice.

Here is a list of some of the music scholarships available for students:

1.Vocal scholarship from Bel Canto; this foundation awards over $15,000 to opera singers with ages ranging from 20-37 who want to pursue an opera career in America

2.John Lennon program for BMI scholarship; this is a scholarship awarded to songwriters who are able to write original compositions. But you can only take advantage of this scholarship if you are invited

3.Scholarship award by String Magazine; this is open for students who are currently in undergraduate program; the award is usually based on academic merit, community service and financial need.

4.FAME also awards college scholarships for students who are nominated for professional achievement for senior college students.

The internet can provide you with a wide range of music scholarship resources. There are different websites which you can visit, and once you’re in their site, see what requirements are needed in order to qualify for the scholarship.

Almost any big university offers a form of scholarship, check with their registrar for scholarship information. There are universities in your local area, take time to visit them. It would be best if you make a list of the different college scholarships awarded to students with interest in music.

Music is a field of interest which only very few individuals take interest. So if you’re one of the few people struggling to get a college degree in music, begin your search for the scholarship. If you think, you can pass the required qualifications, go and take the chance.

Like any other student dreaming of a life in college, you should not be discouraged by the difficulty that you’re now facing. People have problems, and that can’t be avoided.

Financial constraints are not enough to stop you from getting that college education. Choose the best option available for you. This is your way to a dazzling career in the near future.

You are a gifted individual. Share your talent with other people, and show them your love for music. And who knows, you might just be the one that the music industry is waiting for all these years.

  • The Difference Between Student Loans And Scholarships

The issue about the rising cost of education is not new for everyone, be it for rich people or for the those just barely earning a living.

However, this is not of so much of a threat for those who want to enter college but are not capable to meet its expenses. This is because of the two choices made available for them, first is the scholarship programs. And the second is the student loans. They may apply to either of the two.

Basically, the scholarship gives off monetary award which do not require the beneficiary to repay it. Unlike the student loan, the money that was lent to the students will be paid after some time with the corresponding amount plus interests.

Hence, it seems to be apparent that taking a scholarship program is more convenient than the student loan. Yet, you should know that both still consists of its advantages and disadvantages.

In scholarship, the students need not worry about finances throughout his college years. Almost thousands of scholarships are made available yearly. The systems of the programs depend on the financial needs of a certain student.

Although, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you are not intelligent because you were not be able to acquire a scholarship. There are various types of scholarship, one is for the intellectuals who acquire and maintain high grades. The other is the specific scholarships designed for the ones who excel in definite fields, for instance, in the field of sports, math, science, music, stage performers and others.

Those who belong in average I.Q. may still win a scholarship. They may not possess the remarkable level of intelligence to win a scholarship, but their talents may secure them one.

Moreover, there are also scholarships designed for certain races, minorities, and other sectors of the society that needs monetary support. And scholarship is not just confined to college students, the students who would want to pursue further study may also benefit.

There are also several institutions that offer scholarship programs to their members, examples of this are the religious organization and union groups, etc.

Now, if you think you won’t be legible for any scholarship, there is still one option – student loans.

Student loans, as mentioned above is the financial aid given to the students to pay their tuition with the agreement to repay it with the corresponding interests in a given period.

Scholarships do not require for repayment, but student loans do.

The advantage of a student loan is that it will give you freedom to move as a regular student, without the pressure of maintaining high grades and you can do your other activities without thinking of the conflict in the training schedules.

The hassle is when you would consider it, student loans need to be repaid the moment you graduate; you have to pay to the very last cent plus the interests.

If you are the bread winner of your family, paying for it will be another burden though you already have secured a job.

Anyhow, it will depend on you, the important thing is you finish your college education and secure a diploma, be it from a scholarship or through student loans.

The achievement of earning your college education amidst the hindrance of money is the thing you will always be proud of.

  • Scholarships for Artists

It used to be that parent’s discouraged their kids from becoming artists. Now, the world of art is broad and can be very lucrative. And if you need another reason to convince your parents you want to go to art school, there are many schools offering scholarships and funding.

Art scholarships run the gamut from drawing to painting to photography to design and even include art of the culinary, musical and literary variety. Many art scholarships are specific to a particular state, county, or even a college in addition to the art major or art interest/ability requirement.

To get you started, here are some resources:

    • Your University: Most Art Departments offer scholarships to students attending their schools, either directly through the school or through business, benefactors and foundations that support the school. Many schools also offer them to prospective students.

If you’re attending or planning to attend a university, contact your Program Advisor to ask what scholarships may be available through the school or department (if you’re already attending, definitely check in with your Art Instructors, too!). Don’t forget to look for scholarship opportunities on the university department’s web site or on a bulletin board near the Art Department office on-campus, where they also are often posted. Here are some typical departmental scholarship listings:

    Baum School of Art
    Birmingham Southern College
    Cranbrook Academy of Art
    Goshen College
    Hendrix College
    St. Lawrence University

Most universities do offer scholarships to students attending their schools. That’s because they really, really want to keep you there. These kinds of scholarships are the easiest to find out about, but somehow overlooked by many students who could benefit greatly from the funding…and from the prestige of winning!

Just to reinforce this idea of funding from your university or college, the Department of Education reports that at public universities, scholarship and fellowship expenditures have risen consistently from 1980 through 1995.

This may be an indication that there are opportunities waiting for you. Again, at the very least, you should ask your Advisor about other sources if there are none available at your university for your circumstance.

  • 3 Things to Keep in Mind During Scholarship Applications

Each year, thousands of students compete for scholarships to fund their college education. It is common for students with similar academic and extra-curricular records to compete for the same scholarship award. Unless a scholarship has requirements that qualify a very small group in the population, trying to get a scholarship can be difficult or frustrating.

But don’t lose hope yet!  In order to increase your chances of winning a scholarship of your choice, you may have to apply to as many scholarships as you can. Unfortunately, some scholarships will ask you to submit a long list of requirements, making applications to multiple scholarships a bit of a challenge.  This is especially true if you consider the limited amount of time that you’re working with to complete your applications. In addition, many requirements and questions overlap among the different scholarships. Hence, it is very possible to confuse one scholarship for another.

Keep in mind, too, that what you do in the application process can easily make or break your chances at getting the financial assistance you need.  Be sure to get your forms and requirements right the first time – after all, you don’t want to be wasting your energy by messing up your first attempt at applying for a scholarship! Here are some key points to remember when going through the scholarship application process.

    1)      Read the instructions thoroughly.

Although this seems like a no-brainer, many students get disqualified each year for scholarship awards simply because they failed to follow simple directions. Don’t squander all your efforts just because you submitted an oversized envelope. As mentioned, many application requirements and instructions overlap from one scholarship to another, so it’s very easy to mix up which requirement belongs to which.   Make sure that you follow the instructions of all your scholarship applications to the letter, and remember to double check what you’ve already double checked.  You can never be too sure when it comes to scholarship applications!

    2)      Make sure your presentation is neat and organized.

It is always advisable to type out all your essay requirements. Typing your essays using a computer is convenient, and programs such as Microsoft Word or Open Office make it easy for you to spot spelling errors. Secondly, you can store your work in multiple backup drives so that you can reprint them if you ever need to resend your application. But most importantly, typewritten works give a sense of formality because they look neat and tidy.

If the application form requires you to write by hand, be sure to write legibly. Take the time to write as best you can. Be careful of ink blots or any other blemishes like spilt coffee.  Submitting untidy work reflects badly on you, and will make you look sloppy or irresponsible.

    3)      Consult your English Teacher for your Essay.

There is no better advice than that from an expert. If you want your essays to be free of grammatical errors, you may want your English teacher to review your work. Mind you, you don’t need to write like Shakespeare. All that matters is that you write in a way that conveys your thoughts in the most efficient manner without any careless mistakes. Your English teacher can give you valuable tips on how you can improve your essays before you submit them.   You must also remember that Microsoft Word’s grammar checker isn’t as reliable or accurate as its Spell Check function, so always consult someone else if you want to make sure that your essay is at its best.
