O.K. men, it’s your turn. Take the nursing field and run with it. First of all congratulations and salutations to all men entering the nursing field. It is about time, thank you. With that said, how about finding some scholarships to help you achieve your goals. Yes, there are scholarships out there just for you gentlemen. Take advantage of them. Nursing school is a whole other ball field now that men have entered into it full swing. As most of you know, it is not a pretty sight.

Many of the nursing instructors have been holding their own as women for quite sometime. I really don’t think they had planned to see so many men in the field. So What! Right? Wrong. I realize that it is an uphill battle sometimes. The mind and mentality of a nursing student with respect to their instructor is not much different than the humility that the student must show his Samurai Sensi, as he backs up to leave the room never turning his back out of respect for his teacher. Yeah, I know, corny, but hey you have to know how to roll with the punches. Sometimes that doesn’t even work. However men, hang in there. You will make it, and be good nurses, no, great nurses you will be.

Up to this point, I hope that I have not shaken, not stirred those men who are contemplating going into the nursing field. From my own personal experience as a second year nurse with only fifteen weeks left to go, all I can say is that the male nursing students are intelligent, kind, patient and all around very pleasant to be with. Albeit there are not many men in our clinical but those who are do fantastic. So, with that let’s get down to business and get those scholarships for nursing school. Where to go? Well, there is an excellent scholarship for men going into the nursing field called, The American Assembly for. Men in Nursing. You can find out more about what they have to offer by going to their web site at: www.aamn.org/aamnfoundationscholarships.htm

That is not the only nursing school scholarship that you can or should apply for. Your sex has nothing to do with nursing school scholarships. The key is to apply, apply and apply. Get as many as you can. If any of you are veterans, then you must already know that you have some excellent scholarships available. Just like the nursing school scholarships for women who are the sole head of household and bread winners, so too can men apply for the same scholarships.

Balancing a family, job and nursing school is no easy feat. The more time that you devote to nursing school the better off you will be. Studying the nursing texts are not the same as taking pre-requisites. Those texts are the big guns and you need time. So, don’t hesitate in applying for as many grants as you can qualify for. Always go to your school of choice to determine what types of grants and nursing school scholarships are available. Then go online to see what else you may qualify for. Many web sites have toll free numbers that you can call. Just don’t get caught up in the free money traps. Those flashy ads won’t get you anywhere but in debt. Also, ask around. I have found that the more you communicate with other students in the nursing field the better informed you will be. It is surprising to find out that no matter how much you think you were able to dig up on scholarships, there is always that someone that found another one. So be sure to ask. There are many nursing forums online. These are an excellent way to give and take information. Let’s face it, there are not enough nurses, so the more that join the field the better. Best Wishes in your careers.

There are various sources of scholarship money awarded to students each year – probably more than you realize. The trick in finding these opportunities is understanding each type of scholarship and whether you’re eligible for them. While wading through countless resources may seem a daunting task, if you’re serious about finding legitimate ways to fund your college education, the task of learning about various opportunities can be well worth it.

College Scholarships

Many colleges offer monetary awards for their specific college. If you know which schools you’d like to attend, it may be to your benefit to find out whether those schools offer school-specific scholarships as part of your financial aid package. Schools that do offer specific scholarships to students of their college typically include requirements the student must maintain in order to remain eligible for the money.

For example, many colleges require students receiving scholarship money from them to maintain a certain GPA, pursue a defined course of study, or other specific academic requirements. Not every college offers school-specific scholarship awards however, so it’s a good idea to do your research beforehand so you won’t end up disappointed.

Athletic Scholarships

These types of scholarships seem to be less talked about than the majority of monetary awards, but that doesn’t necessarily make them any less viable. It used to be that students who didn’t excel academically, but were amazing when it came to athletics, believed they could fund their college education on an athletic scholarship alone.

These days however, that’s simply not the case. It’s not impossible to receive an athletic scholarship for your hard work on the field, but these scholarship awards are highly competitive. If you excel athletically, it’s a good idea to research the school or schools you’re interested in attending to see if they offer athletic scholarships to promising athletes. You’ll also want to look into the process of applying for an athletic scholarship so you know what’s involved.

Academic Scholarships

These awards are often college-specific as well, and are awarded to outstanding students who excel academically. Because they are merit-based, academic scholarships are also highly competitive. While you may have to apply separately for these types of awards, oftentimes an academic scholarship is included with your financial aid package from the school if you show academic excellence in one field or another.

Different departments of various colleges may also have specific scholarships available to students pursuing a specific course of study within that department. If you already know what you plan to major in, it would be a good idea to contact the school you’re interested in attending and see if they offer scholarships specific to students in your course of study.

Private Organizations

These organizations are not affiliated with any specific school, and awards from these types range from small monetary awards to $20,000 or more depending on the specific organization. These scholarships require a good deal of research to determine whether the opportunity is legitimate, and may have specific requirements for applying.

Various corporations may offer scholarships to students who are interested in pursuing a major within that specific business’ field. These scholarships may be a bit difficult to find, but they are out there. Check with your parents’ employers to see if they offer any sort of scholarship program to prospective students. These scholarships often have less competition, so your chances of obtaining funding this way are greater than they would be otherwise.

Religious groups oftentimes offer scholarships to students who are involved with the church or specific religious organization. If you belong to a religious group, check to see if they offer monetary awards for people interested in attending college. Not every religious organization offers these awards, but you may be surprised at what you discover.

High schools almost always have scholarship opportunities available to students. Check with your guidance counselor and find out which scholarships you may be eligible for. The sooner you begin researching your various scholarship options, the better chances you’ll have of securing funding for at least a portion of your college education.

You may also considering checking with your local Chamber of Commerce for various scholarship opportunities that may be available within your community. They’ll have plenty of information available about the different business’ that may offer scholarships, and will be able to direct you to the appropriate source for your inquiry.

Finally, there are still many other organizations that offer scholarships to students from all walks of life. The “other” category is where you’re apt to find the most opportunities available. Check online at reputable scholarship websites to see if you’re eligible for any, and what requirements these groups may have. You never know what you may find once you start researching your various options.

Of course, the Military is always an excellent option for students who are interested in receiving scholarship money for college. Of course, Military scholarships require students to perform an active tour of duty, and you MUST be willing and able to comply with the requirements in order to receive your scholarship. Most branches will even pay your entire college tuition, depending on which branch you serve and what you’re planning to study. If serving in the Military coincides with your educational goals, you may want to check out which scholarships are available and the requirements for obtaining one. However, be sure that you’re going to be able to follow through with the requirements, because once you’re in – you’re in.

There are countless ways to help cover the costs of your college education, and various scholarship opportunities await you. All you need to do is put in a bit of time and effort to locate those scholarship opportunities that you’re eligible for, and make sure you comply with the requirements exactly. Applying for college is a daunting task, but if you are serious about furthering your education and need help covering the costs, scholarships are a viable way of earning your degree without having to go broke doing it.

Applying for college or university can be a daunting procedure by itself. Also applying for scholarships can seem like a monumental task. Applying for scholarships doesn’t have to be painful. You can now find many scholarships on the internet.

Using the internet to find scholarships might not be painful, but it will still be time-consuming. You will probably have to fill out a profile at each site on which you want to search. It is in your best interest to fill out your profile as accurately and as painstakingly as possible. Choose as many options as you can so that you will be given as many matching scholarships as possible. This way, you can weed out the ones you don’t think are worth it.

A simple way to find scholarships online is to google scholarships. This, however, isn’t always going to take you to the most reputable sites. You will be taken to contest sites as well as scholarship sites.

The best way to find scholarships online is through a few reputable scholarship search engines.

studentawards.com

This is the best scholarship website out there. It has scholarships sorted by their availability in Canada, the US, and abroad.

scholarship.com

This scholarship site is worth checking out. Although not as extensive as studentawards.com, it is best to search for as many scholarships as you can.

scholarshipscanada.com

This site is dedicated to Canadian students or students studying in Canada. It has tons of helpful information.

With all scholarship search engines, you will likely find that some scholarships require money to apply. Find out if that is worth it to you. Only send money if the scholarship is coming from a reputable source. Be sure to establish the difference between scholarships that are based on your merit and scholarships that are more like contests, or that are based on financial need. Any money is good money, but it’s also nice to know why you deserve that money.

Other places to look online include cfuw.org (the Canadian Federation of University Women) and aauw.org (the American Association of University Women). The Rotary Club (rotary.org) also offers scholarships. Are you involved in any national groups, such as scouting, a church, or a club? Check out their websites too for scholarships you might not even know existed.

Governments often offer quite large scholarships. Check out your municipal, state/provincial, and federal government website to see if there are any awards to which you can apply.

Another place to check for scholarships is with local public broadcasting. Go to cbc.ca or radiocanada.ca or pbs.org or npr.org and search for scholarships to see if there are any salient scholarships. The places to look for scholarships are endless. Often, you will find wonderful scholarships simply by signing up for search engines. Don’t be afraid to sign up and take the time filling out the profile.

If you are a graduate student, it is time for you to start looking at getting grants instead of scholarships. You can find out how to apply for grants and fellowships by asking one of your professors. You will want to apply for grants in your field.

In the end, remember that it will take you hours to find and apply for pertinent scholarships. However, because in the end you will be earning hundreds or thousands of dollars, it only makes sense to spend more time now for earnings in the future.

The key to successful scholarship organization is to be organized. Get started early so that you won’t have to scramble at the end of any application. Online is only one place to look for scholarships (and be sure to add the www. at the beginning of these web addresses!). You can also ask for at your school (and your prospective school’s) office of student awards and financial aid. Don’t be afraid to call around and ask for help. Online scholarship engines are a great way to start looking for scholarships, but they are certainly not the last step in obtaining funding for your education.

After you’ve checked out all of the scholarships available, find out how you can get the best student loans at www.theguideto-studentloans.com/types_of_student_loans/ The Guide to Student Loans.

A nursing scholarship can make your dream of becoming a nurse much more obtainable. Currently, there is a considerable shortage of nurses across the country, and that shortage is only expected to increase as the baby boomer’s reach retirement age over the next 10 to 15 years.

This situation presents an opportunity not only for new high school graduates, but also for anyone who would like a career change. The increasing demand for nurses should also provide an increase in scholarship opportunities to help fill these critical positions. Many of those who do not have the financial resources of their own for a nursing education will now have a second chance to pursue their dream by applying for a scholarship.

The first place a student should inquire is with the nursing school they plan to attend. While not all schools will have scholarships available directly through them, this is a good place to start. Those that do may require additional qualifying documentation in order to apply for the scholarship. As an example, some may require the applicant to have had a GPA of at least 3.0 while in high school. An applicant may have to submit a written essay on why they would like to study nursing. A letter of recommendation from their high school guidance counselor may be required, in addition to documentation regarding their families financial status, citizenship, and race.

Do some research on the possibility of finding scholarship, or grant programs that are sponsored by their state, or the federal government. A little diligence in the search should provide educational options that will allow the student to pursue a nursing degree.

The advantages of a grant or a scholarship are obvious. Unlike a student, or personal loan for educational expenses, a scholarship or grant does not have to be paid back. However, there may be conditions to this such as requiring the nursing graduate to work at least two years in a hospital or clinic chosen by the lending institution.

Here are a few examples where aspiring nursing students may apply for a scholarship to pay for nursing school.

The first is the Bureau Of Health Professions (BHPR), which is a part of the US Department of Health and Human Services. A great many students are successful in getting scholarship assistance from this office due to the governments awareness regarding the shortage of qualified nurses across the country.

Another is the American Health Care Association Long Term Care Nursing Scholarship (AHCA). Started in 1989, this fund and has been able to help hundreds of students pursue their dream. While not as large an organization as the BHPR, they will award at least 20 or more scholarships per year to those whom they feel are most deserving.

A third suggestion would be the National Black Nurses Association. This association is designed to assist African Americans in their efforts for a better future. However, funds are limited, awarded on a case-to-case basis, and usually range from $500 to $2000.

In the corporate sector, one company that is helping to promote the nursing profession is Johnson and Johnson. They offer a specific scholarship program called Discover Nursing. Information on this program can be found at their website DiscoverNursing.com.

These few suggestions are to get you started with your scholarship search. There are many private organizations that understand the need for nurses across the country. With a little research the serious nursing candidate should be able to find numerous opportunities to apply for assistance with the funding of their nursing education.

Nursing scholarships are available, you just have to make the effort to obtain one.

There are many scholarships available to any and all people that are going into the nursing profession. Some people don’t want to take the time to find out about scholarships for nursing school. Many believe that the monies that they receive from financial aid will be sufficient. Indeed, sometimes it is, that is if you also take the student loans that eventually have to be paid back. The payback period usually begins approximately six months following graduation from nursing school. But be careful, if you drop out of nursing school for any reason, and do not apply for a hardship extension, you will be liable to begin paying back the student loan, in spite of your circumstances. With scholarships, you do not have to pay them back, period! This is true even if you have to drop out of nursing school for a short period of time. There is another false hood that is widely accepted. That is, that one has to have a 3.0 grade point average or greater to be eligible to apply for a nursing school scholarship. Not true.

There are many factors that allow an individual to apply for a nursing school scholarship. Maybe your are a single mother living on government aid, there is a scholarship for you. Maybe you are of a low income bracket and have a particular ethnicity, there is a nursing school scholarship for you, maybe you just live in an area that is considered economically challenged, there is a nursing school scholarship for you. The list goes on and on.

Where do you begin to find out if there is a nursing scholarship available for you. Other than the internet, the best other place to begin is in your home town, at your place of worship, your place of employment and the schools that offer a nursing program. You will be surprised to find that there are scholarships out there just for being you! Many places of employment or large companies have foundations and wealthy founders that put monies into funds for scholarships. Maybe your parents worked at a company for most of their lives that now makes you eligible to obtain a scholarship. Automotive company founders offer scholarships. Even large supermarket chains offer scholarships for nursing school.

The main idea behind scholarships is to promote education in the community. So don’t ever feel that you are left out in the cold. It might be that you may run into a counselor that may not seem to have the time to do any research for you, but don’t let that discourage you. Sometimes when you are going after something that you really want, like a career in the nursing field, you have to take the reigns and be assertive. That means finding someone to help you, if someone else won’t. The point is, that there are people that are hired to help you find the scholarships for nursing school that best fit your needs. That does not mean that you shouldn’t do your own research as well. The chances of you finding some other scholarships for nursing school in addition to those found for you can only help not hurt.

Students who are about to graduate from high school are already looking ahead toward planning for their first year of college. With this comes the concern for paying their way through college and the search for scholarship opportunities.

So what are scholarships, where do you look to find them, how do you apply and what do you need to watch out for so that you don’t get scammed?

There are a variety of scholarships offered. A scholarship is a gift to a student, one that does not have to be repaid, and is usually given do to the student’s grades, achievements or the student meeting other eligibility requirements. There are popular scholarships that attract a lot of attention and that are quite competitive and there are the off-beat scholarships that require a little more digging to discover, yet are less competitive.

One myth about scholarships is that you have to have a perfect grand point average. There are many scholarships for average students that focus on qualities besides academic merit. There are also many community service scholarships.

To start your scholarship search, first make a list that includes all of your hobbies, clubs and extracurricular activities. Having this information at hand will help when it comes time to ask for letters of recommendation during the scholarship application process. Teachers and counselors can better sell students to selection committees if they have thorough resumes and background information.

You can now match your specialties to eligibility requirements. Don’t waste your time and the institutes by applying for a scholarship you are not eligible for. For instance, if the scholarship is for children of veterans of war, be sure you have proof of this.

There are many small scholarships out there. There’s no scholarship that’s too low to apply for. The $200 and $300 scholarships add up.

Another way to search for scholarships is to contact schools that you are interested in and inquire about their scholarship programs.

When applying, save your applications so that you can revise them each time rather than having to recreate them. This applies to essays as well. You can make minor tweaks to essays and then use them to apply for multiple scholarships.

Where are the obvious places to start looking for scholarships? To name a few: Online; banks and credit unions; churches, alumni associations at schools the student’s parents attended; local Rotary, Elks and Lions clubs; departments that offer the student’s intended major, since they may have awards not handled through the university’s financial aid and scholarships office; any fraternal or community organization to which the student and immediate family members belong; college and university foundations and student’s and parents’ employers.

And last, if a particular scholarship sound too good to be true, it usually is. Learn how to recognize and protect yourself from the most common scholarship scams. The number one tip: If you have to pay money to get money, it’s probably a scam.

Scholarship Defined

Scholarships can be confusing for parents, but they can save them thousands of dollars. There are different forms of scholarships, but all of them are essentially gifted money for college. Unlike loans, scholarships don’t have to be repaid. Some scholarships are paid to the student, while others go directly to the university. Scholarships are awarded by government, clubs, charities, businesses, schools, and other organizations.

Who can get scholarships?

Scholarship isn’t limited to straight-A students, and many students who believe that they aren’t academically qualified fail to apply for scholarships in their schools. There are, however, different types of scholarships for all students, including those with less-than-perfect academic records. There are athletic scholarships, scholarships aimed at students in a particular field of study — why, some providers give scholarships just for living in a particular state or city. Another misconception about scholarship is that only college-bound high school seniors are allowed to apply for awards. Scholarship is available to all levels of college study, from freshmen undergrads to graduate and even PhD students.

Scholarship Grants for Nursing Students

There are four types of financial aid available to meet the educational expenses of nursing students: scholarships, grants, work study and education loans. Most nursing students use a combination of all four to fund their education.

Scholarships are awarded based on everything from special abilities to your religion. There are many sources of scholarships, and an Internet search should uncover a number of scholarship providers.

Here’s how to get the scholarship you want:

• Take initiative

If you want to a scholarship, you’ll need to do the legwork yourself – no one’s going to track you down just to give you a scholarship. Look for scholarship grants whose criteria you meet, and then contact the provider and request a scholarship application packet. Applications may be requested by e-mail by sending in a self-addressed stamped envelope. You’ll never get a scholarship if you don’t try, so be proactive in requesting information for yourself.

• Be punctual

All scholarships providers set deadlines to which you must adhere, or else you’ll lose any chance of getting the scholarship. Don’t miss the deadlines – if you can submit all the required materials before the due date, do so.

• Be organized

Good organizational skills can really pay off. Try to keep your applications ordered by deadline date and give yourself plenty of time to complete the applications and send them in before the due date. Always keep letters of recommendation and transcripts on hand so you don’t have to get new copies every time they are required for an application. By doing this, you’ll not only save time but also money. Create copies of your completed applications before you send them in and then file them in folders with labels containing the deadline dates, mailing addresses and phone numbers of the scholarship provider. Call before the deadline to see if your scholarship application was received. If your application was lost in the mail, you can send the extra copy that you made.

• Be persistent

Don’t expect for the scholarship process to happen overnight. You must be diligent about looking for new scholarships to apply for. Remember that the more applications you send to various scholarship providers, the better is chance of obtaining a scholarship.

• Be optimistic

Stay positive about yourself and your chances of getting a scholarship. Your hard work and the time spent searching for scholarships will eventually pay off.
