Beijing, China (AHN) – Rescuers found six more bodies from a coal mine pit in central China’s Henan province on Monday bringing to 32 the number of miners killed by an avalanche of coal dust at the site.
More than 300 rescuers are searching for five miners still missing after a gas leak explosion on Saturday morning sent more than 2,500 tons of coal dust crashing on the mine pit in Yuzhou City.
Of 276 miners, 239 escaped during the coal dust avalanche while 21 were killed and 16 went missing. Of the 16, five were found on Sunday.
A similar accident occurred at the mine owned by Pingyu Coal & Electric Co. Ltd. in 2008 that killed 23 miners.
