Everyone Benefits When Mom Seeks Higher Education – Apply for Obama’s New Scholarship Program

Some of the benefits of education are pretty obvious and well-known: more career choices, better pay and benefits, work that is more rewarding for the individual.

Really those are just the ones you see. The underlying benefits are just as noteworthy and apply to people far beyond the individual worker. Of course, the children benefit from the security and opportunity that Mom’s career offers them. Perhaps it also offers them a more family-friendly schedule, time to attend school events, a more relaxed and secure home environment.

But the benefits extend beyond the family, too. Communities benefit when these educated Moms become involved in local affairs, school activities, mentoring programs. The revenue base for the state improves as these higher earners yield more tax money both through income and purchases. Local businesses benefit from having a better-trained and more efficient workforce.

The nation, too, benefits for all the same reasons: more involvement, better revenue base, a less stressed society as a whole. Some of these women move up to national leadership roles and become models for others. It is really quite amazing how over time the ripples keep spreading.

For all of these reasons, the federal programs that enable Moms to attain that key ingredient ? education and better jobs ? have been heavily funded to ease the tuition costs and related costs. Pell Grant funds have been increased; tax credits have been increased; the commitment to future job creation will assure that this trained work force will find plenty of opportunities when they go looking.
