Myrtle Beach, SC, United States (AHN) – A South Carolina school was scheduled to reopen Wednesday, one day after a student shot at a school police officer and bomb units dismantled numerous devices.
Returning students found at least two metal detectors placed at each entrance of the school near Myrtle Beach, school officials reported.
Bomb experts on Tuesday disarmed devices found at Socastee High School, according to the Horry County Police Department. The number or nature of the devices was not specified.
The devices were found hours after the school had been evacuated because of the shooting.
The male student – who remains unidentified – opened fire on Officer Erik Karney with a handgun while he was in Karney’s office around 2 p.m., reports stated.
Karney sustained minor injuries when a bullet hit a wall and fragments hit him in the face. The officer was able to detain the student.
The student, whose age has not been released, was being held by the Horry County police.
Officers searched the campus and surrounding areas with bomb-detecting dogs Tuesday evening.
